Lucy Barter gained a BA Honours in Fashion Design specialising in children's wear. After several years living in San Francisco and designing for established children's fashion labels in both England and America including Gap, Gymboree and Pottery Barn Kids, Lucy discovered the Royal School of Needlework. The appeal of the RSN's history, teaching methods and surroundings enticed Lucy back from the States to enroll on the Apprenticeship in 2003. She graduated in August 2006, with distinction, and stayed with the RSN to teach as their US Course Coordinator until Spring 2015. Residing in San Francisco, California, where she lives with her husband and sons, she has her own business - Forever Embroidery Studio.
Lucy is committed to the preservation and time honoured techniques involved in hand embroidery. Her Forever Embroidery Studio is involved with Filoli, and travels around the world to give private instructions and lectures, and furthering her studies for professional growth. While teaching techniques are embraced to further the art of embroidery, Lucy also offers a wide range of service to restore and conserve embroideries and textiles, including mounting for framing using archival methods. Commissioned work is also available.
Future plans include growing to found an embroidery center.
